The name Boudriotte can be used by six lieux-dits, whose wines are also entitled to the Morgeot designation: those who harvest and vinify them separately, as Ramonet does, bottle them under their own name.

The estate was founded in the late 1920s, when Pierre Ramonet began making wine in Chassagne with purchased grapes. The vineyards came one at a time, starting with a plot in Ruchottes, and in 1978, also a piece of Montrachet. Pierre died in 1994; his work had already passed to his nephews Noël and Jean-Claude, sons of André. Today the wines are released under Jean-Claude’s name, and his daughters, including Anne-France, work alongside him.

At Ramonet, they work with old vines and low yields, and vinify in a traditional way. The whites mature in barrels for twelve to fifteen months and remain on the lees for a long time, without being stirred often. New oak accounts for about a third; only the Montrachet is matured entirely in new oak.

Boudriotte was once mainly red wine country, and Chardonnay has gained a lot of ground there in recent decades. The soil varies from one spot to another: pale marl in Boudriotte proper, more compact red clay in the lower lieux-dits. Where limestone predominates, the whites are usually more taut and refined than those from Morgeot. Ramonet also grows Pinot Noir here, which produces the Clos de la Boudriotte, one of his best-known reds; this bottle, on the other hand, is the white, made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes.

Like the house’s other whites, this premier cru is dense and reserved when young: it shows its best with a little air and a few years in the bottle. The 2022 vintage in Burgundy was warm and dry, but generous: the vines coped well with the drought, and after the small 2021 harvest, volumes rebounded. In Côte de Beaune, picking began around August 22.

In Ramonet’s range, Boudriotte is one of Chassagne’s premier crus and complements Morgeot: two neighboring vineyards, two different interpretations of the southern part of the village. Serve at 12-14 °C with baked or sauced fish, shellfish, white meats, and aged cheeses.

In the STELT selection, this Boudriotte is a Chassagne premier cru to cellar and open at your leisure, the white version of a vineyard that Ramonet also interprets in red.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1000/7376/7237/files/Jean-Claude-Ramonet-Chassagne-Montrachet-Premier-Cru-Boudriotte-2016-AOC-075l.jpg?v=1790240925
https://steltwines.com/en/products/jean-claude-ramonet-chassagne-montrachet-premier-cru-boudriotte-2022-075
