Biondi Santi

Tenuta Greppo, in Montalcino, is where Brunello was born. In the second half of the nineteenth century, Clemente Santi and later his nephew Ferruccio Biondi Santi selected a Sangiovese clone suited to pure vinification and long ageing, at a time when Tuscan reds were blends intended for quick consumption. The first bottle identified as Brunello dates back to 1888.

Riserva is produced only in vintages deemed suitable and comes exclusively from the estate’s oldest vineyards, with ageing in large Slavonian oak casks beyond the minimum requirements of the regulations. A documented programme of topping up and recorking accompanies the historic vintages on the collectors’ market.
