Hampden Estate
The estate is located in the parish of Trelawny, Jamaica, and has been producing rum since 1753. The distillery works exclusively with pot stills, without continuous columns, and its distinguishing feature is its ester content, among the highest measured in rum.
The result comes from prolonged fermentations well beyond industrial timeframes, conducted with ambient yeasts and using the area’s traditional muck pit. The OWH, LROK, LFCH, HLCF and DOK marks identify increasing levels of esters: each abbreviation corresponds to a fermentation protocol and a defined profile, not to a difference in ageing.
For much of its history, Hampden sold in bulk; distribution under its own brand is recent, in collaboration with Velier. No added sugar, no filtration.
