Montevertine
The estate was founded in Radda in Chianti in 1967, when Sergio Manetti reclaimed a farm and several vineyards. In 1977, the first vintage of Le Pergole Torte was released, a single-vineyard pure Sangiovese: at the time, the Chianti Classico regulations required white grapes in the blend, and a red made solely from Sangiovese could not bear the appellation.
The response was to voluntarily leave the appellation. Since then, all the labels have been Toscana IGT, even after the rules changed: a choice maintained for consistency that became part of the estate’s identity.
The range remains limited to Pian del Ciampolo, Montevertine, and Le Pergole Torte, aged in large casks with time in tonneaux, without new barriques. Controlled storage and traceable provenance.
