Tenuta San Guido

Sassicaia originated from an experimental Cabernet planting established in the 1940s at Castiglioncello di Bolgheri by Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, in an area with no winemaking tradition at the time. For over twenty years, the wine was reserved for family consumption: the first commercially released vintage was the 1968, launched in 1971.

The international success that followed paved the way for the entire category of Tuscan reds based on Bordeaux varieties. In 1994, the Bolgheri Sassicaia designation was established, the only Italian DOC reserved for a single producer and a single estate.

The blend is built around Cabernet Sauvignon with a proportion of Cabernet Franc, with approximately two years in barrique. The estate also produces Guidalberto and Le Difese. Provenance verified for every vintage.
