Cappellano
The winery is based in Serralunga d'Alba and dates back to 1870. At the end of the 19th century, pharmacist Giuseppe Cappellano perfected the recipe for Barolo Chinato, which is still made according to the family formula. After Teobaldo Cappellano, who died in 2009, his son Augusto, the fifth generation, took over.
The estate covers around four hectares, almost all in the Gabutti cru. Teobaldo was president of the Vini Veri association and asked journalists to review his wines without scores. In the cellar, long fermentations, used large casks, no filtration. Two Barolos come from the Otin Fiorin parcel: Piè Rupestris, on rootstock, and Piè Franco, from ungrafted vines planted in the 1980s.
The STELT selection includes Barolo Otin Fiorin 2015 and Barolo Chinato. Provenance verified.
