Chartogne-Taillet
The maison is based in Merfy, on the southern slope of the Massif de Saint-Thierry, where the family's presence in the vineyards has been documented since the 15th century. Since 2006, it has been run by Alexandre Chartogne, who trained with Anselme Selosse in Avize, across around eleven hectares divided into many parcels.
The work starts with the soil: no herbicides, horse-ploughing in part of the vineyards, ungrafted plantings, soil analysis. In the cellar, indigenous yeasts and ageing in wood, concrete and amphora, with a range built around parcel-based cuvées.
The STELT selection includes three vintage wines: Heurtebise, a blanc de blancs from a single parcel in Merfy on sandstone soils; Les Couarres; and Hors Série, the cuvée that leaves the village to draw on grand cru Chardonnay from Avize. Provenance verified.
