Le Macchiole

The estate was founded in Bolgheri in 1983 by Eugenio Campolmi, in an area that was then building its own winemaking identity. After his death in 2002, management continued under Cinzia Merli.

What distinguishes the estate is its choice to vinify individual grape varieties in purity, contrary to the Bordeaux blends widespread in Bolgheri. Paleo Rosso has been pure Cabernet Franc since 2001, Messorio is Merlot, and Scrio is Syrah.

All the main labels are released as Toscana IGT rather than under the Bolgheri appellation, a direct consequence of those blending choices. Stored under controlled temperature and humidity; provenance verified.
