Riesling from Germany
German Riesling is among the world’s whites with the greatest aging capacity, thanks to a rare balance of high acidity, moderate alcohol content, and precisely calibrated residual sugar.
On the Moselle, the vines grow on steep slate slopes with extreme inclines, often on ungrafted rootstock, producing light-bodied wines with enormous persistence. The Spätlese, Auslese, and Beerenauslese scale indicates the degree of grape ripeness at harvest, not necessarily the sweetness of the finished wine.
It is one of the few categories in which a thirty-year-old bottle remains bright rather than tired. Stored under controlled temperature and humidity, with traceable provenance.
