Description
Sesti’s 2025 Rosato is a Toscana IGT made from Sangiovese, grown at Castello di Argiano, on the southern slope of Montalcino, where the Sesti family also produces Brunello. The vines, trained to a spur-pruned cordon at around 350 meters and facing south, grow in marine-origin soils in vineyards surrounding the village.
The estate is the fruit of a lifestyle choice. In 1975, astronomer Giuseppe Maria Sesti and his wife Sarah bought the abandoned village of Argiano, with its castle, and brought it back to life piece by piece. Wine came later, almost by chance: Giuseppe helped his neighbors with the harvests, and in 1991 planted his vines. Today, the estate covers 102 hectares, 13 of which are vineyards, and his daughter Elisa looks after the vines and the cellar.
The Sestis work naturally, with minimal intervention, following the lunar calendar Giuseppe knows as an astronomer. The vines are farmed according to organic and biodynamic principles, without official certification by the family’s choice, and chemical shortcuts are also avoided in the cellar.
Rosato was created to meet a need at home: a light, fresh wine to drink under the summer sun in Tuscany. Friends and visiting customers tasted it and began asking for it, so production grew. It is made using the saignée method, separating some of the Sangiovese must after brief contact with the skins, and ferments in stainless steel without undergoing malolactic fermentation.
Without malolactic fermentation, the wine retains the grape’s natural acidity: it is a dry, fresh rosato, with Sangiovese fruit taking center stage and an easy-drinking quality that makes it suitable throughout the meal, not just as an aperitif.
In Sesti’s range, it is, along with the Sauvignon, the wine of summer. Serve at 10-12 °C with appetizers, fish, grilled vegetables and lighter Tuscan cuisine, or on its own as an aperitif.
In STELT’s selection, this Rosato is the summer side of a family from Montalcino known for its Brunello.
